about THE WORK
Silvatica Designs’ unique wooden jewelry cultivates a desired and necessary connection to nature by bringing the serenity of the forest into our customers’ daily lives.
Handcrafted from sustainably and locally-sourced materials, our one-of-a-kind products resonate with the conscientious consumer who desires high quality, environmentally-friendly, and customizable accessories.
Our creative process begins in the forest and firewood stacks, where we intentionally seek wood otherwise considered defective. Qualities deemed undesirable in the forest products industry, such as knots, rot, and insect damage, provide the variation and character which make each piece unique. Our jewelry is cut and shaped to capture and accentuate these features. As a result, every item we create has its individual eccentricities and cannot be replicated or reproduced.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
SOURCING THE WOOD
Most wood used in our designs is personally collected by us or friends and family members in Ohio and New Hampshire. Sometimes we find interesting pieces while taking a leisurely walk in the woods, sifting through a pile of firewood, or simply trimming trees around our property. Occasionally other woodworkers will gift us their cutoffs or scraps which allows me to work with non-native species. For larger personal projects or commissions, we sometimes source wood from local family-owned sawmills who share similar views and practices regarding sustainable forestry.
RECYCLED MATERIALS
At Silvatica Designs we strive to reduce our environmental footprint by utilizing recycled materials whenever possible, including in our business cards, gift bags, and boxes.
